“REFLECTIONS: MUSIC SPEAKS”
Closing Reception
Saturday, September 25, 2010
6 to 9pm
Reflections, curated by Tony Graves & Akintola Hanif, is a retrospective look at the Lincoln Park Music Festival over the last four years and features works by Tamara Fleming, Tony Graves, Akintola Hanif, Jaecyne Howell, and Stafford Woods and a priceless collection of photos by Vincent Bryant taken from 1972-1978 at Newark’s legendary Zanzibar nightclub.
The Closing Reception will feature a special slideshow presentation by Tamara Fleming who will share a preview of her images taken while on a service trip to Haiti with United Initiatives for Peace for its 1st Annual “Bel Kan” (creole for Beautiful Camp) at The Haitian Academy just north of Port-au-Prince. The experience reminds us all how rewarding it can be to share skills and talents for the betterment of our communities and world.
Additionally, attendees are invited to view the mural installation in Lincoln Park created by artist Jerry Gant inspired by gospel music and Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound program. Verizon selected Jerry to create the mural to reflect the essence of Newark and honor the role gospel music plays in uniting the community. It will also provide a lasting visual reminder of Verizon’s ongoing commitment to the city on behalf of Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound program.
